Law is the most popular subject among students still looking for university places, while Scottish history, crop science and metalwork design are less sought after.

 

On Friday morning, 162,430 students were still eligible for Ucas Clearing, a process that matches those without university places with courses that are still available.

 

According to Ucas, the five most-searched for subjects on Results Day were law, psychology, economics, nursing and business studies.

 

Ucas listings suggest that 112 universities and colleges still have law courses available, although an admissions tutor at the University of Birmingham has warned that a number of these vacancies may be full.

 

The most sought after universities in Clearing are the University of Manchester, the University of Birmingham, the University of Leeds, King’s College London and Queen Mary, University of London, according to the Telegraph Clearing app.

7,280 students have already gained places through Clearing, including 1,940 who applied through Clearing as a first time application.

In total, 35,000 courses were made available, with over two thirds of Russell Group universities taking part in Clearing this year.

Among the courses with smaller student numbers, Scottish studies, metalwork design and crop science were three of the least popular searches on the Telegraph Clearing app.

Ucas also reported that there were 1.25 million logins to Track yesterday, peaking at 230 logins a second. The Ucas support team dealt with 35,000 calls and 3,000 enquiries via social media on Results Day, while the Ucas website had over 5 million page views yesterday.
